Dr. Farah Shamout is an Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering at NYU Abu Dhabi, where she leads the Clinical Artificial Intelligence Lab. She is also an Associated Faculty at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering (Computer Science & Engineering and Biomedical Engineering Departments) and an Affiliated Faculty at NYU Langone Health (Radiology). Her research focuses on the development and evaluation of AI systems and methodologies that integrate heterogeneous multimodal real-world health data, including electronic health records, medical imaging, and clinical text, to advance computational precision health.

Her interests span multimodal representation learning, foundation models, trustworthy AI, and agentic AI systems, with an emphasis on clinical validity, robustness, generalizability, and translational utility. She is particularly committed to rigorous AI benchmarking and the development of open datasets and evaluation frameworks, assessment across demographically diverse care settings, and the design of AI systems that are informed by local clinical workflows. Her research has received prestigious funding from ADIA Lab, Meem Foundation, Mubadala Student Research Award, and the ASPIRE Research Institute under Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council. A frequent keynote and invited speaker, Dr.

Shamout has addressed international audiences across academia, healthcare, government, and industry. Her honors include being featured in the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka as a “Dreamer Who Does” in healthcare, the NYUAD Campus Life Faculty Leadership Award, and the Forbes Ignite Impact Fellowship. Dr. Shamout completed her DPhil in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and member of Balliol College.
